Maisie's Avenue

A cold dark light She was a sliver in my mind
Couldn't see the city for the street signs
So I went out of my head and I left my body there
I don't know where now but I don't much care − somewhere

Heavy hearts I see'em sinking all around
(Wish it could be easier)
I guess their foundations were unsound
(Wish I could believe in her)
So I blew on the fire I blew out the LEDs
(Couldn't we be happier)
Just waiting for the arguments to cease
(We were our own saboteurs)

On Maisie's Avenue No one knows your name
On Maisie's Avenue Everyone's the same
And if my heart got broken into two
I've only myself to blame
On her empty avenue I walk again

(Wish it could be easier)
Couldn't see the city for the street signs
(Wish I could believe in her)
So I went out of my head and I left my body there
(Couldn't we be happier)
I don't know where, man, but I don't much care
(We were our own saboteurs)

On Maisie's Avenue I forgot my name
That hazy afternoon Remembered it again
And if my heart got broken into two
I've only myself to blame
On her empty avenue that never ends
